Predator trapping for pateke protection in Northland.
The Department of Conservation seeks a contractor for predator trapping operations to protect pateke (brown teal) and North Island Brown Kiwi in Northland, New Zealand. The contract covers servicing 599 traps on public conservation land (Mimiwhangata Coastal Park) and private land in Teal Bay and Whananaki, with weekly or fortnightly visits depending on site and season. Bait supply and preparation are included. The work follows methods refined by the Pateke Recovery Group. The contract runs from an open date of 15 May 2026 to a close date of 16 June 2026.
